The Harney County Senior and Community Services Center is the main hub for all programs for seniors, veterans, and low-income individuals and families including tax preparation assistance, energy assistance, the Harney County food-bank, veterans benefits assistance, computer classes, meals for seniors, and exercise classes among many other valuable programs.
The building was constructed in the 1970’s and still going strong, but the number of programs had long outgrown the space available.
The Center, with the support of key community members and the County Government, hired PARC Resources to develop a capital campaign plan and complete the bulk of the grant writing for a much-needed addition to the Center. Dedicated local volunteers raised over $30,000 in cash and nearly $100,000 of in-kind support from the small community, which contributed to receiving over $400,000 in grant support. The addition was officially opened in May 2013.
“I don’t think everyone realizes exactly all that was accomplished through the grant writing. The first plan was to add on 2,400 ft2 to the existing building and with PARC Resources recommendation we also added a new heating system throughout the old part of the building that included new heat pumps and new duct work for an over 9,000 ft2 building, new siding throughout, and complete furnishings for the entire new building. The total funds acquired through grant writing was $447,466. What a phenomenal experience to work with PARC Resources on this project.” – Project manager, Verna Pettyjohn
“I, as a new administrator, learned a lifetime of lessons on this project and feel that your professionalism and leadership throughout the process was invaluable to our agency, our project and me as the new kid.” – Executive Director, Angela Lamborn
